Pharmacells Ltd have licensed in a Californian technology
that allows them to isolate, store and supply an unusually immature, pre-differentiated
stem cell line. They are aiming to offer the World’s first commercially viable
adult stem banking product suite. In addition, they have the ability to
accelerate scientific research by supplying “their” cell line into appropriate
global research projects.
After going through the usual paths to finding business
funding, Pharmacells got in touch with CBAN and explained the predicament that
they were in. Two different bodies had offered their full funding round but the
terms where very strict and they felt that they would be forced to devote too
much time to appeasing their shareholders.
For this reason, they contacted DLA Piper LLP, the World’s
largest legal form and engaged them in a project to create legal “heads of
terms” that would provide an umbrella for a number of smaller, private
investors.
CBAN was an integral part in finding those investors and
Pharmacells now boasts six smaller investors some with very appropriate
experience, one of whom is now a board member and crucial part in the
Pharmacells business plan.
They’re close to securing a match funding round from
Scottish Enterprise and the European Union and they plan to launch to the UK
market in Summer 2010 and Worldwide in 2011.
CBAN is very proud to have been of assistance and we believe
that Pharmacells and their team have what it takes to be a huge success in a
very demanding field.
